A Million Little Pieces

So you’ve found your honeycomb. Your artistic residence. No cave is built in a day, but you’ve got things inside. Your inspirational quote, a painting by your favorite artist. If you live in LA… maybe your vision board
So now what do you do? Since we’re talking about impulses, a great place to start is plastique work by Jerzy Grotowski. It’s time to get physical. So in your room make sure you can move around comfortably. Get your body loose through stretching or warm up exercises– something to bring you into the creative mood. Then, physically indulge in the most extreme gestures to the most infinitesimal. Make your toes the most important piece of your acting. To your ankles. To your collar bone. As strange as it may seem, plastique work is about expressing yourself with every inch of your body. Explore all the ways you can express yourself with your eyelids. The tips of your fingers. The backs of your calves. Once an actor has full awareness of the power of the slightest head tilt in a scene (check out Alan Rickman), they have opened the gateway to truly commanding the vessel, the instrument.
