Great article. A lot of common sense stuff that’s easy to forget, and I appreciate the inside info on TV stuff as I’ve been largely kicking around small stage plays in the regions out east.

Super right on. I went to a theater conservatory as well, and if they had only gone through these points…as realistically as Malcolm has, I may not feel so resentful sending in my student loan payments every month – even 9 years later.

You know, props are tricky. Once brought a prop in to an audition and the casting director said you don’t need that. You’re better than that. Also brought in a flask to an audition with Denzel Washington and he commented that no one else had made that choice and it revealed alot about the character that he had not seen. Your are funny dude! Thanks for reminding me it takes time and thanks for making me laugh! You told the gehtto sounding people to learn Standard English but you forgot to mention that if you are black and speak proper english you better learn how to sound “Ethnic” or have more of an “Attitude” meaning sound black when they ask you to be a drug dealer.

Malcolm my love, I was never going to be able to put up with all that shit just to be “successful.” Way to put up with all that shit! But it’s got to be that way. You know, to weed out the bad ones.
It really is useful information from the inside perspective. It kind of makes me want to be a TV exec.
